
A native of Saint John, New Brunswick, Violinist and Violist Ariane Alexander came to Timmins to be Principal Violist in the Timmins Symphony Orchestra after completing Bachelor Degrees in Music and Music Education at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Her teacher at Memorial was Dr. Nancy Dahn of Duo Concertante; previous teachers have included Hok Kwan, David Adams and Nurhan Arman. In addition to studying music at Memorial University, Ariane has also attended summer music institutes such as Domaine Forget and Orford. She performed as a soloist with Symphony New Brunswick in the 'Stars of the Future' concert in May 2002 and with the Saint John Chamber Orchestra Alto Mare in a performance of Corelli's Christmas Concerto in December 2007.
Upon moving to Newfoundland in the autumn of 2003, Ariane was invited to play as Concertmaster with the Newfoundland Symphony Youth Orchestra under the baton of Dr. Peter Gardener and became a member of the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Dr. Marc David, as well as playing in Memorial University's Chamber Orchestra. Additional performing activities have included playing Viola with Alto Mare, Violin with the Fredericton Chamber Orchestra and Violin in Newfoundland's only klezmer band, B'ys in Da Shtetl.
Ariane joins the Timmins Symphony Orchestra in 2008 2009 as the Principal Violist. She teaches Violin and Viola at the Geoffrey James Lee School of Music and conducts the Timmins Youth Orchestra.
