The PerformanceThe majority of the performance consists of the duo playing concertos and sonatas of the baroque period. These might well include a concerto from Vivaldi such as the most famous one in C Major, and perhaps a less well-known one by Giuseppe Sammartini or the Englishman John Barton. There may also be sonatas from Händel and Telemann or perhaps the set of variations by Arcangelo Corelli, known as "La Folia." However, the performance will not be limited to baroque pieces. Jan may entertain with an organ solo and Matthew with something interesting for solo recorder. The latter may include a work of the nineteenth century by Anton Heberle, a twentieth century work such as a sonata by Hans Maring Linde, or even a fantasia written for Matthew by David Mitchell which involves playing two recorders at once.
Technical RequirementsThe performance is best heard in a church or hall with a pipe organ. However, it is possible to use a portative pipe organ, e.g. rented from Boddingtons, 519-866-3734, or even a high quality electronic instrument in halls without an organ. Workshops or Master ClassesArrangements can be made with Matthew and Jan to present master classes or workshops. They both have an excellent rapport with people and are experienced teachers. Matthew covers recorder ensemble playing and/or solo work. Jan is an organ and church music expert including improvisation, hymn playing, etc. |
