
Matthew Jones
Matthew Jones was raised in Deep River, Ontario. He graduated from Wilfrid
Laurier University in 1995 with a performance degree in cello. Matthew performs
regularly as a cellist in many orchestras and chamber groups, but his first
instrument is the recorder, an instrument he began playing at the age of seven.
Matthew has been the featured soloist of the Kitchener/Waterloo Chamber Players
and the Wilfrid Laurier Symphony among others. Matthew studied conducting in
the United States at the Conductor's Institute at Hartt University and has played
and conducted the majority of his concerto performances on recorder. Matthew
was the associate conductor of the Georgian Bay Symphony, the assistant conductor
to the Kitchener/Waterloo Senior Youth Orchestra, and guest conductor for the
Kitchener/Waterloo Community Orchestra. Matthew has also conducted the Wilfrid
Laurier Symphony for a variety of concerts. He has performed recorder with Jan
Overduin, organist, since 1992 in the duo JUST PIPES. In December of 1997, their
first CD was released and has been heard on CBC radio 1 and 2 and several classical
stations nationally. JUST PIPES has been recorded live to tape by CBC radio
2 for broadcast in Ontario. Matthew has been the featured soloist with the Kitchener/Waterloo
Symphony and has had engagements with the twentieth century series NUMUS. Matthew
has adjudicated festivals across Ontario, most recently the Guelph Kiwanis Music
Festival. Matthew is the Music Director and Conductor of the Timmins Symphony Orchestra.
He also teaches cello and recorder lessons.

Maria Guidos-Albert
Ms Guidos-Albert is from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Early on, she studied with
Ernest Kassian and then with the renowned late Canadian violinist and pedagogue,
Francis Chaplin, with whom she later studied in university. She also studied
with Sally Thomas during summer studies. She completed her Bachelor of Music
Performance at Brandon University with Francis Chaplin, and after his passing,
with Gwen Hoebig and Nandor Szederkenyi. Maria has been the concertmistress
and principal second violin of the Brandon University orchestra and has done
many solo and chamber performances within Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Maria is
also a pianist, and performed with the Timmins All-Star Big Band for four years.
She is the concertmaster and a violin teacher with the Timmins Symphony Orchestra
Geoffrey James Lee School of Music and also teaches piano privately.

Mits Takayesu
Mr. Takayesu graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a degree
in Music Education, studying under David Haward and Thomas Elliot. He performed
with Orchestras in Guelph, London, and Hamilton while requiring a Master's Degree
in Library Science. Mits is the Principal bassoonist with the Timmins Symphony
Orchestra. He teaches bassoon, clarinet, oboe, saxophone, and recorder for the
TSO Music School. He also plays in the Timmins All-Star Big Band and the Timmins
Wind Ensemble.

Monty Kirkpatrick
Mr. Kirkpatrick studied trumpet at Mount Alison University in Sackville New
Brunswick, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Music and Education. Since
then, Monty has had the distinction of having performed with such well-known
artists as the Supremes, the Platters, and Ben E. King, to name a few. He has
also performed with the Ice Capades, the North Bay and Sudbury Symphonies, and
was a member of the critically acclaimed touring band, Double X. Locally, Monty
conducts and performs with the Timmins All Star Big Band as well as Brass Traxx.
Mr. Kirkpatrick is in his eleventh year as a teacher with the Norhteastern Catholic
District School Board, and has been principal trumpet with the Timmins Symphony
Orchestra for as many years.

Dawna Carrier
Dawna Carrier was born and raised in Cochrane, Ontario. Dawna began
teaching piano in 1994 and continues to teach private lessons today. She was
a licensed Kindermusic educator for five years. To further her knowledge of
child development, she became an Early Childhood Educator through Confederation
College of Arts and Technology. She was director of the Anglican Church Handchime
Choir. Dawna is the Kindermusic teacher with the Timmins Symphony Orchestra
Geoffrey James Lee School of Music.

Geoffrey McCausland
Geoffrey comes to the TSO from Saint John, New Brunswick. He began playing violin
with his father at 5 years of age, then went on to win the Junior and Intermediate
Star of the New Brunswick Competitive Festival of Music. Geoffrey previously played
with the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra ending as concertmaster for the "Virtuoso Italia Tour"
He has a Bachelor of Music - Violin Performance from McGill University (studying with
Jonathan Crow and Andrew Dawes). He has spent seven summers studying at the Domaine Forget
International Summer Music camp (Catharine Dallaire, Richard Roberts, Andreé Azar, David
Stewart, Gwen Thompson and Oleg Pokhanovski) and is committed to the ongoing pursuit of
learning and improvement with his musical education. In addition to being an accomplished
violinist, Geoffrey is also an active member of his community and seasoned athlete, having
participated in the 2003 Canada Winter Games as captain of the New Brunswick Sabre Team,
as well as holding the position of captain and head coach of the McGill University Varsity
Fencing Team.
